Friday, April 17, 1936

Cold and windy with rain this evening-
Done all the chores and regular work-
Mended stockings and petticoats* today-
Mother has been fairly good all day but is difficult this evening-

*Petticoats, or underskirts, were not overly common in the 1920s & 1930s for everyday wear, so maybe Irene is talking more about slips. But she does actually mentions making a slip on March 17, 1936.

  1. I think Irene probably is referring to a slip. My granny wore a petticoat until she died in 1985. :-) Some habits are hard to break I guess.

    1. I thought so too, like she is using the two words interchangeably.

Thanks for visiting this flashback to 1936. I'm sure Irene would be pleased! We'd love to hear from you.
