^"Xmas" is not a non-religious shorthand for Christmas. The "X" is actually an abbreviation of the Greek word for Christ. For more info check out these 2 links. The Origin of Xmas. & The "X" in "Xmas" Doesn't Take the "Christ" out of "Christmas".

Hi there! How have you been?
ReplyDeleteWas shocked to see "Xmas" written here. Thought that wasn't used until quite a bit later...
Apparently the "X" is the Greek letter "Chi" & was often used as an abbreviation of Christ's name for hundreds of years. I've added a link to the post.
