and oatflake cookies
Harry came this afternoon to stay all night-
I stretched pillow cases this afternoon-
Sent letters to Iliff and Alice and a card to Ida Ammack and to Lloyd Bower for the ladies

Made a rice pudding and finished cleaning the kitchen paint to day-
Rec'd a nice long letter from Alice also one from Iliff.
Aunty sent a letter to Clara
Mother has been good today.

plesant but windy-
Done the washing and cleaned out under oven of the Kalamazoo range and picked up horse chestnuts this afternoon-
Rec'd a card from Alice-
Combed Mothers hair an
put on clean cap and sweater and apron-
Sadie Freese and sister Frane* from Maryland called-
*Not sure how accurate these names are as Irene's handwriting is a bit difficult to decipher here.

Cold and windy
10 [degrees] below zero this eve-
paths blowed full-
Shovelled them out and done all the chores-
got three eggs* today-
Rec'd letter from Alice^-
Mother has been fine all day-
*I believe this is the 1st mention of eggs in all the times Irene has discussed (or implied about) the chickens. The days are getting longer, so more sunlight may be helping the girls along in their laying. The low temperatures are not helping. I found an great article on chickens & laying eggs in winter on a website called Local Harvest if you are interested. (Above image from Wikipedia.)

Clara and Harry left this noon- Seems mighty quiet and lonesome without them-
Mother has been good about Clara's going all afternoon-
Albert Hall called on Clara this forenoon- said his father has to leave the hospital without operation-
